The Death of Digital!!! (or)
How I stopped worrying about digital and learned how to love film all over again.
Folks, I don't really know why I have never heard of MaxiVision48 before. I don't know why it has taken this long to get here but it's here and people in the industry better take note. For all those people out there who were sure that digital filming and digital projection was going to take over or even if you are a film purest and were a bit afraid that a soulless computer would replace the beautiful celluloid image, never fear, the future of film is here.
MaxiVision48, what an idea, what a great movement in film. I won't try to lay it all out for you, but I will tell you the big and small of it and if you want the in-depth info, go to MaxiVisions site. It's real simple, normal movie cameras and projectors run at 24 frames per second. MaxiVision has invented system for movie cameras and projectors that:
1) Can run at 48 frames a second, making the picture quality hugely better that standard film (and digital is still trying to catch up to film as we know it)
2) They have a 3 hole pull down system that saves film. Normal film cameras have a 4 hole pull down system, leaving a lot of wasted film in-between frames. MaxiVisions system uses more of the film. Plus it can run at normal 24 frames using the 3 hole pull down and saving you a 25% on your film stock. However, if you want to shoot at 48 frames, that doubles the frames, however with the 3 hole pull down the you are not burning as much film as you would using the 4 hole pull down. So you are still talking savings when compared to normal 35 now.
3) The projector is backwards compatible, so any older films could be shown.
There is just so much to this system, improvements on so many little technical things, that I can't early get into it all here and the cost is so, so, so much cheaper than digital... It's the wave of the future, that came from the past... I have to say the only thing that is holding it back is that not enough people know about it. MaxiVision doesn't have the money that computer companies have. So please take note and tell everyone... Digital is deal (At least in Motion Picture Production and Projection Systems for Theaters) and maybe people will take notice. I hope MaxiVision48 will be the standard. I'm sure that some of you out there have heard of this, if you have, please let me know and let me know your thoughts on it. Am I being hopeful? Yes. Is it possible? Oh Yes.
Long live Film!!!
