Comment time:

Well, it would be impossible to talk about the 75th annual Oscar Celebration  without talking a bit about Michael Moore's win and speech.

First off, I am glad he won cause I thought "Bowling" really deserved the Oscar and besides, it seemed the most poignant film in the category.

About Michael's speech. I would expect no less from him. If he hadn't gone up and said something that was in your face, it wouldn't have been Michael Moore and he would have been viewed by his fans as a sellout. One thing I don't see in him, is a sellout. Say what you will of him but you have to admit he has strong convictions. Not being swayed by the difficulties of the times we are facing and living in.

I was glad that Conrad L. Hall got the best cinematographer, not because of his passing but because he earned it. Perdition was beautiful. Mr. Hall, here is one for the journey.

Shocked that Scorsese didn't win best picture. What does this guy have to do with win an Oscar?

Second shock was Adrien Brody winning best actor. Shocked because of the company he was keeping in that category.  I'm looking forward to seeing "The Pianist."

O'Toole is too damn cool.

Least shocking and a last disappointment are  Least shocking: That best picture went to "Chicago" which is the picture everyone thought would win. a last disappointment: I would have rather seen it go to "Gangs." I think in ten years "Gangs' will be remember and "Chicago' not as much.

You have to know something about me. As I have gotten older, my tastes have changed for movies. When I was younger and saw a movie like "Terms of Endearment" win best picture I would be so damn pissed. Now, I have learned to love a much broader range of movies. However, I always remember my younger self screaming, "Get the hell out of here, we got screwed. That movie sucked!"  So these days, I would think about what I thought was the best picture, balance it with which one made me feel the most and finally ask that younger me if I am full of shit.

I would most likely have thought "The Pianist" was the best picture. (Not seen yet)
The one that made me feel the most was "The Hours"
And my younger self says, bullshit "Lord of the Rings" baby!

That makes me feel like "Gangs of New York" would be a choice, all 3 of us would like.
