Runaway Production, Cine Gear, Showbiz expo and Moleapalooza:
Yesterday I read an article about Runway Production and it's not just kids play anymore. A report will be coming out soon from Center for Entertainment Industry Data & Research that says we are losing 4.1 billion and some 25,000 jobs from the US economy. That is not chicken feed anymore and something has to be done about it. I am going to Cine Gear and Showbiz Expo this weekend and I hope I hear some really good ideas on how we can get those film, commercials and TV movies back to the states. We have to be the ones who do it and not expect to lean on other countries with tariffs and the like. We have to compete; first on a government level cause they have as much to lose in this as we do. As we have seen recently in the world, the media is a very important part of any countries image and if we keep seeing media made and even controlled by another country, we are in trouble. I hope our government sees this.
On the studio and big money level, they have to see that one day they could be shut out of the picture as well. As other countries build a bigger and bigger media infrastructure, there power grows and ours declines.
Actors have a roll in this too, they could push harder to stay here in the states and not work in other countries. They have been made famous in this country and now that they are making millions, they don't care that they are hurting the people who got them there in the first place.
Even the American worker will have to sacrifice a bit to make this whole thing work. It's up to us all. If we lose it and let it end up in Canada or where ever, we have no one to blame but our selfish selves. I for one love making movies and it kills me I don't get to do it nearly as often as I would like.
